AMD's Ryzen Pro CPUs are intended for the business market. They are generally found in pre-built systems and do not support overclocking.

The Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE CPU isn't available in a boxed version. However, you may be able to purchase it in a tray version or as part of a pre-built computer.

Tray versions are sold in bulk, without retail-box packaging. These CPUs are then sometimes sold again, individually.

Which Chipsets Are Compatible With the Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE Processor?

For AMD's Zen 2-based Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE processor, you'll need a motherboard with an AM4 socket and a compatible chipset.

Motherboards for AMD processors are made with chipsets provided by AMD. Each chipset offers a unique set of capabilities. However, motherboards must explicitly support features and capabilities for you to use them. Verify that a motherboard supports the features and capabilities you desire.

Ryzen 4000-series CPUs, which includes the Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE, are compatible with all 400 and 500-series consumer chipsets. Supported chipsets include the X570, B550, A520, X470, and B450.

The older X370, B350, and A320 300-series chipsets are generally not compatible, out of the box, with Ryzen 4000-series CPUs. However, these 300-series chipsets may be supported by some motherboard manufacturers, when using a specific compatible BIOS.

The X570 is our recommended chipset for the Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE CPU, as it provides the most functionality and the ability to upgrade to a newer AM4 CPU in the future.

Note that the Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE CPU only supports PCIe 3.0.

4.0 PCIe 4.0 speeds may be supported for CPU lanes on some motherboards, with a BIOS update and CPU that supports PCIe 4.0.

Comparison of PCIe Speeds

PCI-Express speeds are based on the PCI-Express version and the number of lanes used. One lane is referred to as x1, two lanes as x2, etc. PCI-Express technically supports up to a width of x32. However, most consumer motherboards have some set of these PCIe widths: x1, x2, x4, x8, x16.

PCI-Express versions are backward compatible, meaning that you can use a PCIe 4.0 graphics card or storage device on a PCIe 3.0 or PCIe 2.0 system. However, PCI-Express will use speeds based on the lowest of the two versions for communication. For example, if you use a PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD with a PCIe 4.0 system, the SSD would be running at PCIe 3.0 speeds.

Reducing the PCIe version would halve the max potential bandwidth. However, you may not experience a performance impact if your device is not using the available bandwidth.

The bandwidth for each PCIe 4.0 lane is 2 GB/s. 2 GB/s per lane means that if you use a PCI-Express 4.0 x16 device, it would have up to 32 GB/s of bandwidth available to it.

NVMe M.2 SSD cards use 2 or 4 lanes, which means they have 4–8 GB/s available to them with PCIe 4.0.
