Air or Liquid Cooler for Intel Core i9-9900KF?

Started by MinnesotaBear on June 01, 2024

I've recently built a PC with an Intel Core i9-9900KF processor and I'm looking for the best CPU cooler for it. Any recommendations? What are the pros and cons of air vs. liquid coolers?

I've found an article on TechReviewer that compares various CPU coolers for different CPUs including the 9900KF. You might find it helpful: Choosing the Best CPU Cooler for Intel's Core i9-9900KF.

For the 9900KF, I'd recommend checking out the Enermax Liqmax III 360 as a great liquid cooler. It offers good performance and is relatively quiet. However, it can take up more space in your case compared to an air cooler.

That sounds interesting, @TrippKitty. What about air coolers? Any suggestions?

The be quiet! BK022 Dark Rock Pro 4, 250-watt TDP is a fantastic air cooler for the Core i9-9900KF. It's efficient at cooling and doesn't produce too much noise. But like liquid coolers, it also takes up some space in your case.

Solution

Thanks for sharing the link, @ChaveyJones. Can anyone tell me more about Thermal Design Power (TDP) and how it relates to selecting a cooler?

Sure, @MinnesotaBear! TDP refers to a CPU cooler's ability to dissipate heat in watts. It's essential to choose a cooler with a TDP that matches or exceeds the peak TDP of your 9900KF for efficient heat management.

Thanks for the info, @TrippKitty. What are some things I should consider when choosing a CPU cooler?

When selecting a cooler, you should think about noise levels, size, lighting, price, gaming performance, and overclocking requirements. These factors will help you choose the perfect cooler for your needs.

That's really helpful advice, @kajsaunicorn. I appreciate it! So, between an air or liquid cooler, which would be a better choice for my 9900KF? Any recommendations?

It depends on your preferences and budget. If you're looking for better cooling performance and lower noise levels, a liquid cooler like the Enermax Liqmax III 360 might be a good choice. However, if you have limited space or prefer a more affordable option, an air cooler like the be quiet! BK022 Dark Rock Pro 4 could work well too.

Thanks for all your help, everyone. I'll do some more research and decide on the best cooler for my Core i9-9900KF. Have a great day!

You're welcome, @MinnesotaBear! Good luck with your decision!
