I recently bought an Intel Core i5-10500 and am wondering if a Z490 motherboard is really necessary. I've been doing some research but can't seem to find a definitive answer.

The article on TechReviewer Choosing the Best Motherboard for Intel's Core i5-10500 mentions that the i5-10500 does not support overclocking, which means you don't necessarily need a Z490 motherboard.
Thanks for sharing the link, @Coolairforceschedule. That's helpful information. Does anyone have experience with using a B460 or H410 motherboard with this CPU?
I've been using an Intel Core i5-10500 with a B460 motherboard, and it works perfectly fine. There hasn't been any issue so far.
Great to hear, @spencerfitch. So, for someone like me who doesn't plan to overclock, is there a specific chipset or brand you'd recommend?
If you're not planning on overclocking, you can actually use 400-series chipsets as well. The MSI MPG B460 Gaming Edge WiFi is a good option for value and performance.
That's true, @LilCreezy. The 400-series chipsets should work just fine for the i5-10500 if you don't need overclocking capabilities.
Based on your suggestions, it seems like I can avoid getting a Z490 motherboard and find something more budget-friendly. Much appreciated!
