Sony Z9J HDMI Port Limitations?

Started by Novine96 on May 31, 2024

I just bought a new Sony 75" Z9J TV, and I'm wondering if there are any limitations when it comes to using the HDMI ports. Can anyone share their experience or knowledge on this topic?

@Lichimaru, thank you for the information! I have a question though - the TechReviewer article HDMI Capabilities of the Sony 75" Z9J TV discusses the HDMI capabilities of the Sony Z9J TV in detail. You might find it helpful. Can you tell me if there's any difference in using an HDMI 2.1 cable with an HDMI 2.0 port?

The Sony 75" Z9J TV has two HDMI 2.1 ports and two HDMI 2.0 ports. The HDMI 2.1 ports support higher resolutions up to 10K and offer faster refresh rates for other resolutions compared to HDMI 2.0. It's recommended to use an HDMI 2.1 cable for optimal performance.

Solution

@gluczkowski2, sure! The HDMI 2.1 cables are backward compatible with older HDMI versions like 2.0, but when paired with a 2.0 port, they only support the features of the older version. For optimal utilization of HDMI 2.1 features, it's best to pair an HDMI 2.1 cable with an HDMI 2.1 port.

@gluczkowski2, have you tried using multiple devices with your Z9J TV? I'm concerned about the number of ports and if there might be limitations.

I've been using my Sony Z9J with several devices at once without any issues. Just make sure to use the right HDMI port for each device - HDMI 2.1 for high bandwidth devices, and HDMI 2.0 for lower bandwidth ones. I'm currently using it with a PS5, Xbox Series X, Blu-ray player, and soundbar, all connected to different HDMI ports.

@DukeDawg, that's great to know! Thanks for sharing your experience. I guess I don't have to worry about the number of devices as long as I use them accordingly.

@gluczkowski2, did you manage to get a good quality HDMI cable? My friend recommended me to buy from a reputable brand to avoid any issues.

@Novine96, it's always best to go with a reliable brand for your HDMI cables. I've had good experiences with Anker and Monoprice cables. They offer high-quality products at reasonable prices.

@Lichimaru, thanks for the suggestions! I'll check those brands out. By the way, regarding my previous question about VRR and eARC support on the Z9J TV - are they supported?

Yes, both Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) are supported on the Sony 75" Z9J TV. VRR can be particularly useful for a smoother gaming experience, while eARC improves support for advanced audio technologies like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.

@gluczkowski2, great! That's good to know. I guess I'm all set then. Thanks everyone for the help!

No problem, @Novine96! Enjoy your new Sony Z9J TV!
