Sony A80L HDMI Ports - Enough for My Setup?

Started by RealDomIsReal on May 14, 2024

I recently purchased a Sony 83" A80L TV and I'm planning to use it with my gaming PC. I need some advice on whether the HDMI ports available will be enough for my setup.

In my experience with the Sony A80L TV, it can handle multiple devices without any issues as long as you use the right cables. The TechReviewer article HDMI Capabilities of the Sony 83" A80L TV discusses the HDMI capabilities of the Sony 83" A80L in detail, which might help you make an informed decision.

I've been using my Sony A80L TV with a PS5, Xbox Series X, and a desktop computer. I used two HDMI 2.1 cables, one for the PS5 and another for the gaming PC. It worked seamlessly.

@bubblezombie, how is the performance when using multiple devices? Does it cause any lag or issues?

@Nullcrass There's no noticeable lag, but I do need to switch inputs manually. Also, if you're planning on using eARC for your audio setup, make sure your AV receiver supports HDMI 2.1 and eARC.

@BillFromAccounting7 Thanks for sharing that link! It's helpful to know more about the TV's capabilities before making any decisions.

@RealDomIsReal, I've been using my Sony A80L with a gaming PC and a PS4. The HDMI ports on the TV are sufficient if you're not planning to use multiple devices simultaneously. If that's your plan, it should be fine.

@jack0lan That's true. It's worth noting that switching between devices is pretty straightforward on this TV.

@BillFromAccounting7 and @bubblezombie, thank you for the advice! I appreciate it. It seems like having two HDMI 2.1 cables will be necessary if I plan to use multiple devices simultaneously.

@RealDomIsReal, make sure you also check your AV receiver's compatibility with eARC before setting everything up. Good luck!

@Nullcrass I'll keep that in mind and look into the AV receiver compatibility.
