Sony 75" X80K HDMI Ports Enough?

Started by malkier1 on June 18, 2024

I just bought a new Sony 75" X80K TV and I'm wondering if the HDMI ports are enough for my setup. Can you help me with this?

@malkier1, I'd like to mention that the Sony 75" X80K does support eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) with its HDMI 2.1 port. This means you'll get better audio quality for things like streaming services or gaming. Also, I've found this TechReviewer article HDMI Capabilities of the Sony 75" X80K TV which discusses more about the HDMI capabilities of the TV and suggests some good cables.

Hi @malkier1! The Sony 75" X80K has four HDMI 2.0 ports which should be plenty for most setups. However, it does not support HDMI 2.1 or VRR (Variable Refresh Rate). You'll need to check if your devices can work with HDMI 2.0.

Yeah, @DamionYoung is right. But also, consider the refresh rate of the TV which is 60 Hz. It's good for movies and shows but might not be enough for gaming or fast-paced content. You might want to look into that as well.

Solution

Thanks @EverythingIsFine3! So it looks like the ports should be enough for my setup. But I'm interested in getting an HDMI 2.1 cable to take advantage of eARC. Do you have any recommendations?

Yes, there are a couple of good options. The Anker 8K HDMI 2.1 Cable and the Monoprice 8K Certified Braided HDMI 2.1 Cable are both great choices. They offer excellent performance and compatibility with the Sony 75" X80K.

@malkier1, I've used the Monoprice cable before and it works well for me. It's durable and has a good build quality.

@malkier1, just one more thing to consider is that even though the TV doesn't support VRR, you can still use FreeSync or G-Sync if your devices allow it. This will help with screen tearing during gaming sessions.

That's great information! Thanks everyone for helping me out. I think I'll go ahead and get an HDMI 2.1 cable and look into the FreeSync/G-Sync options as well. Appreciate all the advice!

No problem, @malkier1! Enjoy your new TV!

Have fun with your setup, @malkier1!

Good luck with everything, @malkier1!
