Semi-Modular vs. Fully Modular PSU for Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE?

Started by Ev-Trinity on July 11, 2024

I'm thinking about getting a power supply for my new build with the AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE CPU. Can you guys help me decide if I should go for a semi-modular or fully modular PSU?

Yeah, that's true, @maek0815. Also, you should consider power supply efficiency and certification when choosing your PSU. For example, an 80 PLUS Gold certified PSU will be more efficient than a Bronze-certified one. You can find more information about this in the TechReviewer article Choosing the Best Power Supply for AMD's Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE CPU.

Hey @Ev-Trinity, I recently built a system with the same CPU, and it works great! You can check out this article about choosing the best power supply for AMD's Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE CPU at Choosing the Best Power Supply for AMD's Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE CPU. It might help you make your decision.

Thanks, @Westgatez. That was really helpful! According to the article, both semi-modular and fully modular PSUs can provide ample power for my CPU, as long as they meet or exceed the recommended wattage. But I'm still unsure which one to choose. Any suggestions?

Hey @Ev-Trinity, I think it comes down to personal preference. I've had good experiences with both semi-modular and fully modular PSUs. A fully modular PSU might offer more flexibility, but they can be a bit more expensive.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'll definitely keep those factors in mind while making my decision. I'm leaning towards a semi-modular PSU right now, but I might change my mind if I find a good deal on a fully modular one.

That sounds like a reasonable choice, @Ev-Trinity. Just make sure the PSU you choose has enough wattage for your system and supports the Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE CPU properly. Good luck with your build!

Agreed, @Ev-Trinity, and don't forget to add that extra buffer of 100-150 watts for future component upgrades or overclocking. I wish you the best of luck with your new system!
