Ryzen 7 7700 vs. Intel Core i5-10400F - Better for Gaming?

Started by LexisVideo on May 06, 2024

I'm considering getting either the AMD Ryzen 7 7700 or Intel Core i5-10400F for my next build. Can anyone here give me some insights on which one would be better for gaming?

@PorkChopHill True that! I'd recommend checking out more reviews and articles like the one from TechReviewer AMD Ryzen 7 7700 vs. Intel Core i5-10400F to get an even better understanding of how these CPUs perform under different scenarios. Good luck with your build!

@LexisVideo The Ryzen 7 7700 has a higher core count, base frequency, and single-core boost frequency compared to the Core i5-10400F. This should make it perform better in most games. I also read this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 7700 vs. Intel Core i5-10400F that goes into more detail about their performance differences.

I've used both CPUs for gaming and can say that the Ryzen 7 7700 really shines in titles that are CPU-intensive. However, if you're looking for a budget-friendly option, the Core i5-10400F might be worth considering.

@SupraRZ1999 That's true. I had the Ryzen 7 7700 and it performed great in games like Apex Legends and Overwatch. But when I switched to the Core i5-10400F, I was surprised at how well it held its own.

@kevinkrump@WarlikePenguin Thanks for your input! It's interesting that both CPUs can perform well in gaming. What about general app performance? Any difference there?

The Ryzen 7 7700 does have an edge in gaming due to its higher core count and boost frequency, but the Core i5-10400F is still a capable choice for most gamers. When it comes to general app usage, both CPUs should offer good performance.

@PorkChopHill Yeah, I agree with you there. The difference between these two CPUs might not be as significant in everyday tasks like browsing or streaming videos.

It seems like the Ryzen 7 7700 has an edge for gaming and general app usage. But is there any scenario where the Core i5-10400F would outperform the Ryzen 7 7700?

@LexisVideo The Core i5-10400F could potentially be better in some budget builds or if you're limited by your motherboard's PCIe support. Also, it's slightly cheaper than the Ryzen 7 7700.

I'd also add that the Core i5-10400F has a smaller form factor, which might make it a more attractive option for those with space constraints on their desks.

@SupraRZ1999@WarlikePenguin Good points. It looks like both CPUs have their advantages and disadvantages. I'll definitely take these factors into account when making my decision.

@LexisVideo Exactly! It's always good to weigh the pros and cons before making a decision. Remember, personal preferences and specific use cases play a significant role in choosing the best CPU for your needs.
