Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs. Intel Core i5-12400 for Gaming?

Started by polynumeron on June 07, 2024

I'm in the process of building a new gaming PC and I'm trying to decide between an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D or an Intel Core i5-12400 CPU. Has anyone here had experience with either of these? Any advice would be great!

That's true, @ClarknAddison. I'd recommend checking out some reviews on TechReviewer AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs. Intel Core i5-12400 to get more insights into how these CPUs perform in real-world scenarios.

I've used both the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Intel Core i5-12400 for gaming, and in my opinion, the 5800X3D performs better overall. It has a higher single-core boost frequency and more cores which are beneficial for gaming.

Yeah, I agree with @daastheboss. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a beast for gaming. I also noticed that it handles multitasking really well, which is a huge plus when playing games with multiple apps open in the background.

I've used the Core i5-12400 and it's not bad either, but if you're looking for better performance overall, especially in single-threaded tasks and high-end gaming, I would go with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The extra cores definitely make a difference.

Hey guys, just wanted to throw my two cents in here. I've been reading up on TechReviewer AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs. Intel Core i5-12400 and it seems that the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D has better L3 cache capacity compared to the Intel Core i5-12400. This can lead to improved performance in certain scenarios.

That's good to know, @iosifache. So it sounds like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the way to go for me if I'm looking for the best gaming experience. But what about cooling? How important is that for these CPUs?

Cooling is definitely important, especially when overclocking or if you're running intensive tasks for extended periods. Both the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Core i5-12400 will require a high-performance CPU cooler to maintain stable performance.

I've used both AMD and Intel CPUs in my PCs, and one thing that's consistent is that they both heat up quite a bit under load. So yeah, having a good cooling solution is essential. Also, make sure your PSU can handle the power requirements of whichever CPU you choose.
