Hey everyone, has anyone tried the Ryzen 7 3800X? I'm thinking of building a new gaming PC and want to know if this CPU is good for gaming.

Yeah, I've been using it for a few months now and I'm quite happy with its performance. It works great for my gaming needs.
That's interesting! There are some drawbacks mentioned in the TechReviewer article Is the Ryzen 7 3800X CPU Good for Gaming? that you might want to consider. The CPU does need high-end cooling to maintain overclocked frequencies, and most modern games don't benefit from more than 6-8 cores.
Thanks for the heads up, I wasn't aware of those issues. But if it still works well for your gaming needs, then maybe it's not a big deal?
True, my setup is pretty decent and I haven't encountered any problems so far. YMMV, as they say.
I've been using the 3800X for some time now, and while it does have its drawbacks, I must say that in my experience, it has performed exceptionally well in gaming. The overclocking support is a huge bonus too!
Thanks for sharing your experience, @simplygod! It's helpful to hear from someone who's actually used the CPU. So, do you think the cooling issue isn't a big problem?
Not really, I've been using a high-quality cooler and haven't faced any issues with overheating. The CPU maintains its overclocked frequencies without any problems.
That's good to know. I guess it all depends on your specific setup and how well you can manage the cooling.
Exactly, @simplygod! It's also important to consider other factors like DDR support and PCIe compatibility. From what I recall from the TechReviewer article Is the Ryzen 7 3800X CPU Good for Gaming?, the 3800X has excellent DDR4 support up to 3200 MHz and PCIe 4.0 compatibility.
Yeah, those are great points @ryancshort. It seems like it could be a good CPU for gaming after all, despite its drawbacks.
Agreed! As long as you can manage the cooling and other factors, the Ryzen 7 3800X should serve you well in your gaming rig.
