Ryzen 7 3700X vs. Ryzen 5 3600 Multitasking?

Started by ohhhvictor on July 11, 2024

I've been thinking about getting either the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or the Ryzen 5 3600 for my new build. I'm mostly going to use it for gaming and some general app work. Can you give me some advice on which one would be better for multitasking?

Thanks for the input, guys. I think I might go with the 3700X since I'm willing to spend a bit more for better performance in gaming and multitasking. Also, I've been reading some TechReviewer articles and they seem pretty reliable. One of their recent articles said that the 3700X is a great choice for content creators as well AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs. AMD Ryzen 5 3600. Do you guys agree with that?

Hey @ohhhvictor, both CPUs are excellent choices, but the Ryzen 7 3700X has more cores (8) than the Ryzen 5 3600 (6), so it should handle multitasking better. You'll also get a higher single-core max boost frequency with the 3700X (4.4 GHz vs. 4.2 GHz). However, they both support DDR4 with a max stock speed of 3200 MHz and offer excellent PCIe 4.0 support.

@ohhhvictor, I agree with @feeseize. The additional cores on the Ryzen 7 3700X will definitely help with multitasking, especially when running multiple applications or doing some serious gaming. I've been using a Ryzen 5 3600 for a while now and it works fine, but I've seen my friends get a 3700X and they swear by it.

@ohhhvictor, I think you'll be happy with either choice, but if you're on a tight budget, the Ryzen 5 3600 is a great option. It still performs well for gaming and general app use. Also, if you plan to overclock, the 3600 might be more stable than the 3700X.

@ohhhvictor, another factor to consider is that both CPUs have 32 MB of L3 cache, which is great for performance overall. The Ryzen 7 3700X has a base frequency of 3.6 GHz, while the Ryzen 5 3600's base frequency is also 3.6 GHz. So it really comes down to your budget and whether you want more cores or are willing to overclock.

Solution

@ohhhvictor, I'm glad to hear you're considering the Ryzen 7 3700X! That CPU will serve you well for gaming and multitasking. The TechReviewer article you mentioned makes sense, as the extra cores on the 3700X can really help with content creation workloads. Plus, having a higher single-core max boost frequency is always an advantage in demanding tasks like video editing or streaming.

@ohhhvictor, yeah, I agree with @cocoabeachbrews. The Ryzen 7 3700X should be great for content creation and other high-demand tasks due to its increased core count and higher single-core max boost frequency. If you're planning on doing a lot of video editing or streaming, the extra cores will make a noticeable difference.

@ohhhvictor, just one more thing to consider - if you ever decide to upgrade your GPU in the future, having more cores on the 3700X might be beneficial for maintaining better performance. But ultimately, it's your call and your budget that will be the deciding factor here.

Thanks again for all the advice! I think I'll go ahead and get the Ryzen 7 3700X. Now I just need to find a good GPU to pair with it!
