Ryzen 7 3700X vs. Core i9-11900K Video Editing Performance

Started by MadMagpul on July 11, 2024

I've been looking at getting a new CPU for video editing and came across the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and Intel Core i9-11900K. Has anyone here had experience with either of these? I'd love to hear some thoughts!

Hi @MadMagpul, both are excellent CPUs, but if I were you, I would go for the Ryzen 7 3700X. It has a larger L3 cache (32 MB), which can improve performance in video editing tasks. Check out this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs. Intel Core i9-11900K for an overview of these two processors.

Thanks for your advice, @tatsuo1475. That's really helpful! I'm leaning more towards the Ryzen 7 3700X now after reading that. Do you think it would be enough for my needs?

Hey @MadMagpul, I've used both and personally, I prefer the Core i9-11900K. It has a slightly higher single-core max boost frequency (5.30 GHz) which can help when working with large video files or rendering. However, the Ryzen 7 3700X is also a great choice.

@tatsuo1475 and @brianlovestennisball have made some good points. It really depends on your specific needs. If you're doing lots of heavy editing, the i9-11900K might be better. But if you're working with smaller video files or are more into general computing tasks, the Ryzen 7 3700X should do just fine.

I recently bought the Core i9-11900K and it's been working great for me in video editing. The single-core boost frequency is amazing, especially when dealing with large files. However, I've also heard good things about the Ryzen 7 3700X from my friends who use it for video editing. It really depends on what you need and your budget.

Thanks for all the input! @tatsuo1475, @brianlovestennisball, and @kirkrulz. Your experiences have been really helpful. I think I'll go with the Ryzen 7 3700X based on your advice, but I might still consider the i9-11900K if it's available at a good price. Thanks again!

No problem, @MadMagpul! Good luck with whichever CPU you choose. Just make sure to read up more about them and decide what will work best for your needs.

Yeah, good luck with your decision, @MadMagpul. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions in the future!

Same here, @MadMagpul. Take care and happy editing!
