Ryzen 5 3600 TDP Concern in SFF Builds?

Started by ubiquitousjuan on May 02, 2024

I'm planning to build a small form factor (SFF) PC and am wondering if anyone has experience using an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 in such a build. The TDP is relatively low compared to other CPUs, but still, I'm concerned about heat management in a compact setup.

You mentioned you were using the Ryzen 5 3600 in your SFF build? I was just reading about this on TechReviewer and found a helpful article discussing its TDP and PPT limit. What Is the TDP of the Ryzen 5 3600 CPU? It's good to know that it can work well in a compact setup with proper cooling.

I've been using the Ryzen 5 3600 in my SFF build for quite some time now and haven't had any issues. It does generate some heat, but the airflow in my case is pretty good, so it's never become an issue. The CPU cooler I chose was a Noctua NH-U9S, which has been fantastic at keeping temperatures low.

Solution

That's great to hear! I'm considering the same CPU cooler as you mentioned, Noctua NH-U9S. How's the installation process? I've read some mixed reviews about it being difficult to install on certain motherboards.

The installation was a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. Just make sure you have enough space behind your motherboard for the fan and that you don't mount any RAM modules too close to where the cooler's heatsink will go. I had no issues with my particular setup.

I've been using a Fractal Design Node 202 case for my SFF build, and it has decent airflow for a compact case. With the Ryzen 5 3600 and Noctua NH-U9S, I haven't had any overheating issues so far. I'd say don't be too concerned about the TDP if you're choosing proper cooling solutions.

Thanks for the input! It seems like a good cooler choice for SFF builds, then. Just to clarify, did you use a 120mm or 92mm fan with the Noctua NH-U9S in your build?

I used the 92mm fan that comes with the Noctua NH-U9S cooler for my SFF build. It has been working well so far and hasn't caused any issues related to noise or cooling performance.

That's good to know! If you're in a tight space, using a 92mm fan should work just fine. Just make sure your case has enough airflow to help with heat dissipation. The Ryzen 5 3600 shouldn't be an issue if you take care of the cooling.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! It's definitely reassuring to hear from others who have successfully used the Ryzen 5 3600 in SFF builds without any overheating problems. I'll keep that in mind when I build my own setup.

Awesome, thanks everyone for the advice and information! I think I'll go ahead and order the Noctua NH-U9S cooler and see how it works out in my build. I'll also pay extra attention to case airflow and ensure there's enough space behind the motherboard.
