I've been considering the AMD Ryzen 5 3400G for my next build. Any thoughts on how it would perform in gaming?

Yeah, it's a solid choice! I recently picked up the Ryzen 5 1600 AF and have been quite happy with its performance so far.
Check out this TechReviewer article comparing them AMD Ryzen 5 3400G vs. AMD Ryzen 5 1600 AF. The 3400G might be better for single-threaded tasks like gaming due to its higher boost frequency, but the 1600 AF has more cores which could be useful in other scenarios.
Thanks for sharing that! I was unaware of the differences between these two CPUs. So you think the extra cores on the 1600 AF wouldn't make a huge difference in gaming?
The extra cores can help with multitasking and running resource-intensive applications, but for most games, the single-core performance is more crucial. The 3400G's higher boost frequency should give it an edge in gaming.
I've used both of these CPUs for some time now, and I must say that the Ryzen 5 3400G is a beast when it comes to gaming! I'm really happy with my choice.
That's great to hear! So you think the extra cores on the 1600 AF wouldn't be too beneficial in most games?
Well, it depends on the game. Some games might benefit from the additional cores, but for the majority of them, single-core performance is more important. The 3400G's higher boost frequency should give it an edge in gaming.
I agree with @andrewsal01. Also, don't forget that the 1600 AF has a larger L3 cache which could be beneficial for certain tasks, even though it may not impact gaming performance as much.
