RX 5600 PSU Recommendations?

Started by tshapedvisor on June 08, 2024

I'm building a new PC and need some advice on choosing the right power supply unit (PSU) for my AMD Radeon RX 5600 GPU. I've heard that the peak power consumption of this GPU is around 150 watts. What PSU should I go for?

Hey @tshapedvisor, when choosing a PSU for your RX 5600 GPU, it's important to consider not just the power output but also efficiency and connectivity options. You can find some great recommendations in this TechReviewer article Choosing the Best PSU for AMD's Radeon RX 5600 GPU. It covers everything you need to know about choosing the best PSU for your AMD Radeon RX 5600 GPU.

Hi @tshapedvisor, you'll want to consider a PSU with at least 600 watts if you're going for mid-tier components and around 700 watts for top-tier components. I've found that the EVGA SuperNOVA G5 Series and Corsair SF Power Supplies are both excellent choices.

Solution

Thanks for the advice, @diskdinomite and @hyperspeeddoggo. I'll definitely check out those suggestions. What's more important: wattage or efficiency? And should I go for a fully modular or semi-modular PSU?

Hi @tshapedvisor, wattage is crucial as it ensures your components will receive the power they need without any issues. Efficiency helps you save on electricity costs, but if you're budget-conscious, you might prioritize wattage first. As for modularity, it really comes down to personal preference and your case's layout. Fully modular PSUs can offer better cable management options.

Great points, @spencerjhoughton. I'm leaning towards a Corsair SF Power Supply based on the wattage and efficiency. However, I'm unsure if I should get a semi-modular or fully modular PSU. Any thoughts?

@tshapedvisor, I've used both semi-modular and fully modular PSUs, and I prefer the fully modular ones for their flexibility and ease of cable management. They can make a huge difference in keeping your build clean and organized, especially if you plan on upgrading or adding new components in the future.

@tshapedvisor, I agree with @hyperspeeddoggo that a fully modular PSU is worth considering. But don't forget to check if it has the right connectors for all your components. Also, make sure to add a 100-150 watt buffer to your estimated power usage, just to be safe.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll take all of this into consideration when choosing my PSU. By the way, @hyperspeeddoggo, did you find the TechReviewer article helpful in making your decision?
