Right PSU for RTX 3090 Ti?

Started by lmagineDragons on May 02, 2024

I'm looking to build a new PC and want to get the best power supply unit (PSU) for an RTX 3090 Ti GPU. Can you guys recommend any good options? I've heard that choosing the right PSU is important for system stability.

@lmagineDragons, I recently built a system around my RTX 3090 Ti and went with the EVGA GD75 as well. It has been performing very well, and I'm happy with my choice. I also checked out Choosing the Best PSU for Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU for more insights on choosing a PSU. It's important to consider power efficiency, connectors, cable lengths, and other features too.

Hi @lmagineDragons, for a top-tier setup like yours with the RTX 3090 Ti, it's best to go for a power supply that can handle at least 1000 watts. That should be enough for your GPU and other high-end components. I've been using the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 Series 80+ Gold Full Modular ATX 3.0 PCIe Gen 5 Power Supply, and it's been working great for me so far. You can check out this TechReviewer article Choosing the Best PSU for Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU for more details on choosing the right PSU.

Thanks for the recommendation, @massiveart. I'll definitely look into that power supply. Can you guys suggest any other options too? I want to make sure I'm getting the best value for my money.

Hey @lmagineDragons, another option you might consider is the Corsair AX1600i 1600W 80+ Titanium Fully Modular Power Supply Unit. It's a really high-quality PSU and can handle some serious power requirements. But be prepared to spend a bit more on it!

I've also heard good things about the EVGA GD75 Power Supply Unit. It's a great option for an RTX 3090 Ti, and it comes with a nice warranty too.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll look into the EVGA GD75 as well as the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 that you guys recommended. Are there any downsides or things to watch out for with either of these options?

The main thing is just to make sure you're getting a power supply that has all the necessary connectors and cable lengths for your build. And always keep in mind that having a little extra headroom is better than not having enough power.

That's true, @massiveart. Also, don't forget about the importance of efficiency ratings like 80 PLUS Gold or higher. They can help save on electricity costs and reduce heat production.

Yeah, I agree with you guys. Efficiency is definitely something to consider when choosing a PSU for your build. Good luck with your search, @lmagineDragons!
