Recommended Cooling Solutions for Ryzen 3 2300X?

Started by skunruly on May 06, 2024

Any recommendations for cooling solutions that would work well with an AMD Ryzen 3 2300X CPU? I'm trying to build a new PC and want to ensure it runs smoothly under heavy load.

@Squeaks02, air coolers can work well with the Ryzen 3 2300X. For instance, the Noctua NH-D9L is a great low-profile air cooler that offers excellent cooling performance and runs quietly. You should also consider the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo if you're on a budget. Both of these options are mentioned in this TechReviewer article: What Is the TDP of the Ryzen 3 2300X CPU?.

I've used the NZXT Kraken X63 liquid cooler with my Ryzen 3 2300X, and it has been fantastic. It maintains low temperatures even under heavy loads and is very quiet. The RGB lighting adds a nice touch too. You can find reviews on TechReviewer here: What Is the TDP of the Ryzen 3 2300X CPU?. I'd recommend getting one if you're looking for an efficient, high-quality cooler.

What about air coolers? Are they good enough for the Ryzen 3 2300X?

Solution

@cocoabeachbrews, thanks for mentioning those air coolers. I'm concerned about case compatibility, though. Can either of these coolers fit in a small form factor case?

The Noctua NH-D9L is designed specifically for small form factor cases, so it should work well if you're space-limited.

@skunruly, that's great to know. The Noctua NH-D9L would be a good choice then, especially if your case has limited airflow or if you want to minimize the overall height of your cooling system.

What about CPU thermals when using an air cooler like the Noctua NH-D9L? Are they good?

@Squeaks02, I've never had any issues with thermals when using the Noctua NH-D9L. My Ryzen 3 2300X stays well below 70°C even under heavy load, which is more than satisfactory for gaming and productivity tasks.

That sounds promising! Thanks to everyone for their input. I'll look into these options and see which one fits best with my case and budget.
