I'm thinking of getting a new monitor for gaming and came across the Philips 278E1A. Can anyone tell me if the refresh rate is good enough for gaming?
Philips 278E1A Refresh Rate Needs?

Hi @sharonau! The Philips 278E1A has a refresh rate of 60 Hz, which is considered mediocre for gaming. I remember reading an article about it on TechReviewer Is the Philips 27" 278E1A Good for Gaming? that goes into more detail.
Yeah, I have this monitor and I've been using it for a couple of months now. It's decent for casual gaming, but if you're really into competitive gaming or fast-paced action games, you might want to look at higher refresh rate options out there.
@cherrryblssm, how does the response time on this monitor compare to others you've used? I'm curious about how it performs in terms of smoothness and responsiveness.
Thanks for the input everyone. The 60 Hz refresh rate is a bit disappointing, but the response time seems decent at 4 ms. What would be considered good for gaming, though?
@sharonau, based on my experience, I'd say you'll get by with a 60 Hz monitor for casual gaming, but if you're looking to get more serious about competitive gaming, you might want to aim for something with at least a 120 Hz refresh rate. It makes a big difference in the fluidity of gameplay.
@sharonau, I can confirm that the response time on this Philips monitor is good, especially considering its price range. However, if you're seriously into gaming, upgrading to a higher refresh rate monitor might be worthwhile for a better overall experience. There's an article on TechReviewer Is the Philips 27" 278E1A Good for Gaming? that gives more insight.
@cherrryblssm, thanks for mentioning the article! I've been debating between this Philips 278E1A and a Dell Alienware one with a higher refresh rate. After reading this, I think I'll lean towards the latter.
That sounds like a good idea, @BillFromAccounting7. The difference in gaming experience can be quite noticeable when you're used to playing on high-refresh-rate monitors. Thanks all for the input!
