Performance Difference Between AMD Ryzen 5 5600 & Ryzen 9 3900X?

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and have been wondering about the difference between the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 and Ryzen 9 3900X. Any advice would be great.

I've heard that the Ryzen 9 has more cores which can help with multitasking. Is that true?
