Any advice on the best non-Intel chipsets to use with the Core i7-12700KF processor? I'm looking for something affordable and reliable.
Non-Intel Chipset With Core i7-12700KF?
Started by DarkKnightDabber on May 26, 2024
I've read that AMD's X570 chipset is compatible with the Core i7-12700KF. Have you tried using it?
Yes, I used an AMD X570 motherboard with my Core i7-12700KF setup. It worked perfectly fine without any issues. However, it didn't support overclocking like Intel's chipsets do.
I've been using a B550 chipset for my Core i7-12700KF and it works well. The performance is good but I haven't tried to overclock it yet.
When comparing the two chipsets, Intel's Z690 and AMD's X570, you might want to check out this TechReviewer article Which Chipsets Work With Intel's Core i7-12700KF CPU? for more detailed information about their features, performance, and compatibility. It could help you make a more informed decision.
@mattylert That's really helpful, thanks! I'll definitely take a look at the article. Just to clarify, though, does that mean AMD chipsets generally don't support overclocking or is it just this particular one?
The X570 chipset doesn't support CPU overclocking like Intel's Z690 and Z790 chipsets do. However, some higher-end AMD chipsets like the X670 and X700 series might have better overclocking capabilities. But for the Core i7-12700KF specifically, it seems that the X570 won't allow you to overclock.
@mattylert Alright, that's good to know. Thanks for clarifying! So if I were to go with an AMD chipset, should I be looking at the B550 or a higher-end model like the X670?
I would recommend going for a higher-end model like the X670 or even the X700 series if you plan on overclocking your CPU. The X670 and X700 chipsets offer better overall performance and more advanced features compared to the B550 chipset.
@bastibraune I think I'll go with an AMD X670 chipset then. Do you have any recommendations for specific models? I'm looking for something affordable yet reliable.
I would recommend the ASUS ProArt series of motherboards, specifically the ASUS ProArt B700 series, which is compatible with the X670 chipset. These boards are known for their build quality and excellent performance.
Another good option to consider is the Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX DDR5. It's a reliable choice that offers great value for money and impressive features, such as PCIe 5.0 support, high-speed memory compatibility, and advanced cooling solutions.
@MFnJones, @bastibraune Thank you both! I'll check out those options and see which one suits my needs best. Much appreciated!
