Modular PSU for Ryzen 5 2500X?

Started by metagnathous on May 05, 2024

I'm building a PC with an AMD Ryzen 5 2500X CPU and I'm trying to figure out what power supply would be best. Any recommendations?

I've written an article about choosing the best power supply for AMD's Ryzen 5 2500X CPU on TechReviewer. Here's the link: Choosing the Best Power Supply for AMD's Ryzen 5 2500X CPU. It covers different power supplies and their compatibility with this CPU.

For the Ryzen 5 2500X, you don't necessarily need a modular PSU, but it can help manage cables better. Just make sure your power supply has enough wattage for all your components.

@computime Thank you for sharing that! I was looking at the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 Series, does it seem like a good choice?

The Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 Series is a solid option. It's 80+ Gold certified and fully modular, which should help with cable management.

Great, thanks! I was also considering the EVGA SuperNOVA G5 Series. What do you think about it?

The EVGA SuperNOVA G5 Series is also a good option for your Ryzen 5 2500X build. It's fully modular and 80+ Gold certified as well, just like the Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 Series.

@plutoandluna and @Littlebitoflovely I appreciate the recommendations! Based on my budget constraints, would it be better to go for a higher wattage power supply than needed or stick with the recommended wattage?

It's generally a good idea to add a 100-150 watt buffer to your estimated total wattage. This extra headroom can help if you decide to add more components in the future or if you end up overclocking.

@computime That makes sense! I'll keep that in mind while choosing my power supply. Thanks everyone for your help!

No problem, happy building!

Good luck with your build!
