LG 34WN780-B for Gaming?

Started by Sashworth2000 on May 20, 2024

I've been looking into getting a new monitor for gaming and came across the LG 34WN780-B. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with it or can recommend whether it would be a good choice for gaming. Any input would be appreciated!

Hi @Sashworth2000! I actually have some experience with that monitor. I've been using it for a few months now and it's worked great for me. The 34-inch screen is really nice, especially for wider games or multitasking. I'll also mention the TechReviewer article Is the LG 34" 34WN780-B Good for Gaming? which gives a more in-depth analysis of this monitor's performance.

Solution

Hey @Sashworth2000! I've been using the LG 34WN780-B for about six months now and I'm quite happy with it. The 1440p resolution really makes a difference, especially when playing games like Battlefield V or The Division 2. It also has good color accuracy, which is a plus. As for the response time, it's decent but could be better - I've noticed some minor ghosting in fast-paced games.

@Sashworth2000, I have this monitor and love it! The size of the screen makes it perfect for FPS games, giving you more peripheral vision. The only thing is that I find it a bit too heavy to move around easily on my desk, but other than that, no complaints!

That's a good point about the weight, @Dajosada. It can be a bit of a pain if you need to adjust your setup often. As for the response time issue @CardiacCatFan mentioned, I agree it could be better. But overall, I think the benefits outweigh this small drawback.

Thanks for all the input! The screen size and resolution sound really appealing. I might have to look into getting one. Does anyone know if you need a specific GPU to make the most of this monitor's features?

@Sashworth2000, I'll chime in here - yes, you do need a decent GPU to fully take advantage of this monitor's features like the high resolution and refresh rate. A lower-end GPU might struggle with maintaining a smooth framerate at higher settings. But if you have a good GPU, this monitor is fantastic for gaming!

Thanks for the advice, @Travelblind! I'll keep that in mind when choosing a new GPU to pair with this monitor.

One last thing, @Sashworth2000 - don't forget about the ergonomics. The LG 34WN780-B doesn't have the best adjustable stand, so you might want to invest in an aftermarket solution if you're planning on having long gaming sessions.

Good point, @CardiacCatFan! I hadn't thought about that but it's something worth considering for sure.

You've given me a lot to think about. I'll do some more research and see if the LG 34WN780-B is the right choice for me and my setup.
