I've been looking at the HP 23.8" VH240a monitor and was wondering if it's a good choice for gaming. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?
Key Specs for HP 23.8" VH240a as a Gamer?

Hi @wern1129, I've actually had the VH240a for about a month now. It's a decent monitor, but you might want to consider something with a higher refresh rate.
Yeah, I agree with @lizz0188. The 60 Hz refresh rate is okay, but it can feel a bit sluggish in fast-paced games. A higher refresh rate would definitely be preferable for gaming.
I've been using the TechReviewer article Is the HP 23.8" VH240a Good for Gaming? to compare different monitors and found that the HP 23.8" VH240a has some good specs. It's got an IPS panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution and a 5 ms response time, which should be great for gaming.
Thanks for sharing, @Squeaks02. So, does it mean the lower refresh rate isn't that big of a deal then?
It's not a huge dealbreaker, but having a higher refresh rate would give you smoother gameplay. The 5 ms response time helps with this, but you'll still notice some ghosting in fast-paced games.
That makes sense. I guess it comes down to personal preference and budget. If the VH240a fits within your budget and you're not planning on playing a lot of competitive shooters or racing games, it could be a good choice.
Exactly, @Knowledge1337. It really depends on what kind of games you play. For casual gaming, the VH240a should work just fine.
Thanks for all your input! I think I'll give it a shot and see if it works for me. I appreciate everyone's help!
No problem, @wern1129! Let us know how you like it once you've had a chance to use it.
Good luck with your new monitor! And remember, you can always upgrade later on if you find that the lower refresh rate is holding you back.
True, @Knowledge1337. It's always good to future-proof your setup as much as possible. Enjoy your gaming sessions!
