Intel i7-13700 vs. i9-10850K for Gaming?

Started by PijnAppel on June 20, 2024

I've been doing some research on CPUs for my new gaming setup and I'm torn between the Intel Core i7-13700 and the i9-10850K. Has anyone here had experience with these or can recommend one over the other? Just looking for some insights.

Hey all, you might find this article helpful in making your decision Intel Core i7-13700 vs. Intel Core i9-10850K. It goes over some of the key differences between these two CPUs, like their cache sizes, boost frequencies, and overclocking capabilities.

I have the i9-10850K, and it's been running great for me! It handles all my games at high settings without any issues. I also like that it has support for overclocking, which can really boost performance if you're willing to put in the extra effort.

I've been using the i7-13700 for a few months now and it's been working well too. It's a bit more affordable, but it still offers great gaming performance. The only downside is that it doesn't have support for overclocking like the i9-10850K.

I've read some reviews of the i7-13700 and people seem to be really impressed with its 30 MB L3 cache and PCIe 5.0 support. Those features sound pretty cool for gaming!

Thanks, @Sacellum! I'll definitely check that out. Just to clarify, though, is the i9-10850K really worth the extra money for the potential of overclocking?

It depends on your budget and how much you're willing to push your hardware. For me, it was worth it since I wanted to squeeze every bit of performance out of my system. But if you're on a tighter budget, the i7-13700 might be the better choice.

That's true. It's also important to consider future upgrades and whether or not you'll want to keep your CPU for a long time. The i9-10850K could potentially be more future-proof if you plan on keeping your system for several years.

Good points, guys. I think I'm leaning towards the i7-13700, but it's still tough to decide. Any other suggestions or experiences?

Well, I guess it ultimately comes down to your specific needs and budget. If you don't mind spending a bit more for the potential of overclocking, go for the i9-10850K. Otherwise, the i7-13700 should serve you well.

Yeah, just make sure you have a good cooling solution no matter which one you choose. A high-quality cooler is essential for maintaining stable performance, especially when pushing your CPU to its limits with overclocking.

Absolutely! And don't forget about the importance of a good GPU as well. Your CPU will only be as fast as your weakest link, so make sure you have a powerful enough graphics card to complement whichever CPU you choose.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I think I'll do some more research and maybe try out both CPUs in-store if possible. Good luck with your gaming rigs, guys!

Likewise! Let us know how it goes if you decide to go with either of these CPUs.

Will do! And good luck with your builds as well, @mpalmer302 and @KsGaming2.

Thanks, @PijnAppel and @Psycomedian. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
