Intel Core i9-9900K vs. i5-9400F for Video Editing

Started by LeslieMiniMoo on June 20, 2024

I'm looking into getting a new CPU for video editing and was wondering if the Intel Core i9-9900K is worth it over the i5-9400F. Can anyone provide some insight?

@LeslieMiniMoo, the i9-9900K does offer better performance overall, particularly in video editing due to its higher core count (8 cores) and single-core max turbo boost frequency (5.00 GHz). Have you checked out this TechReviewer article comparing them? Intel Core i9-9900K vs. Intel Core i5-9400F

Thanks for sharing that, @Moose1956. I wasn't aware of the difference in core counts and frequencies between these two CPUs. What do you think about the i5-9400F?

The i5-9400F has a lower core count (6 cores) and single-core max turbo boost frequency (4.10 GHz), making it less suited for video editing tasks. However, it might be sufficient for general gaming and application usage.

Yeah, I've been using the i5-9400F for a while now, and I haven't had any issues with video editing. It's definitely good for light to moderate workloads but may struggle with more intensive tasks like 4K video editing.

That's helpful, @LarsofArcana. So it seems like the i9-9900K might be a better choice if I plan on doing more intensive video editing. Thanks for the input!

No problem, @LeslieMiniMoo. Just make sure you have a high-end cooler to maintain those frequencies with either CPU.

Exactly, and don't forget about the importance of a good GPU too!

True that! Well, I'm glad we could help. Good luck with your decision, @LeslieMiniMoo!
