Intel Core i9-14900KF vs. i9-12900F - Better for Gaming?

Started by randygbrooks on May 14, 2024

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I've been looking at the Intel Core i9-14900KF and the i9-12900F for my new gaming PC build, but I can't seem to make up my mind. Has anyone here had experience with either of these processors? Any advice would be helpful!

@randygbrooks One more thing: don't forget to check out the TechReviewer article Intel Core i9-14900KF vs. Intel Core i9-12900F, which provides in-depth comparisons of these CPUs and their performance in various scenarios, including gaming.

Hey @randygbrooks, I've been using the i9-12900F in my setup for a couple months now and it's served me well. It runs most games at smooth framerates without any issues. Have you checked out the TechReviewer article Intel Core i9-14900KF vs. Intel Core i9-12900F that compares these two CPUs? It might give you some insights.

I've been using the i9-14900KF for a few weeks now and it's a beast! The higher core counts, frequencies, and cache capacities really make a difference in gaming. I was able to overclock it without any issues too. Check out @MVSyndrome's link from TechReviewer for more details.

just wanted to share my experience with the i9-12900F. I got it last month and it's been running great! The color accuracy and smaller size really make a difference in my workflow, but I haven't noticed any significant impact on gaming performance compared to the i9-14900KF. What games are you mostly playing? That might help narrow it down.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, @MVSyndrome and @CaptainCorn13, as well as @Joaolicia. I mostly play FPS games like Overwatch and Call of Duty, along with some action-adventure games like Cyberpunk 2077. Does either CPU have a clear advantage in these genres?

For the type of games you're playing, you might benefit from higher core counts for better multitasking and improved frame rates. The i9-14900KF has a slight edge here with its additional cores and threads. However, don't forget about other factors like memory support and overall system compatibility.

Right, and if you're looking for color accuracy and a smaller form factor, the i9-12900F might be more suitable for your needs. It really shines in visually rich games, but you may need to tweak some settings for optimal performance in fast-paced FPS games. Ultimately, it depends on what aspects are most important to you.

Thanks everyone for your input! I'll take all of this into consideration and make a more informed decision. Appreciate the advice!

@randygbrooks Good luck with your build! Remember to monitor your system temps during gaming sessions, as higher clock speeds can generate more heat. And don't forget to keep an eye on updates for driver optimizations too.

Agreed with @MVSyndrome, monitoring temperatures and keeping drivers up-to-date are crucial for maintaining smooth gameplay. Good luck with your decision, @randygbrooks!

@randygbrooks Another thing to consider is future-proofing. While the i9-14900KF might offer better gaming performance now, the i9-12900F could potentially be a better long-term investment depending on game development trends. Good luck with your build!
