Intel Core i9-14900 vs i9-14900F: Best for Gaming?

Started by foxyylla on June 14, 2024

Any thoughts on the Intel Core i9-14900 and Core i9-14900F? I'm looking to build a new gaming PC, and I'm trying to decide between these two CPUs. Any advice would be helpful!

That's a good point @Keebler8448. Also, check out this TechReviewer article Intel Core i9-14900 vs. Intel Core i9-14900F that compares these two CPUs in detail. It might give you some more insights.

I've used both Intel Core i9-14900 and Core i9-14900F in my personal projects, and they're pretty similar. The main difference is that the 14900F has a free M.2 slot for an SSD, while the 14900 doesn't. That's something to consider if you plan on adding an NVMe SSD later on.

Solution

@Minime1251, thanks for sharing the link! I'll definitely read through it. One thing though, does the free M.2 slot on the 14900F have any impact on overall gaming performance? Or is it more of a convenience feature?

It's mostly a convenience feature, but having that extra slot can be beneficial if you want to upgrade your storage later without sacrificing other components. However, when it comes to actual gaming performance, both CPUs are very similar. It ultimately depends on your specific needs and preferences.

Exactly @Keebler8448. If you don't plan on upgrading your SSD in the near future, then the 14900 and 14900F should offer very comparable gaming experiences.

@Minime1251, I see. So, there's no significant difference in gaming performance between these two CPUs. I guess it really comes down to whether or not I want that free M.2 slot for an SSD upgrade later on. Thanks for the advice!

I'm in the same boat as @foxyylla. I'm building a new PC and can't decide between the 14900 and 14900F. The free M.2 slot is appealing, but I'm also worried about potential bottlenecks with having an SSD in such close proximity to other components.

@tokyobob, that's a valid concern. In general, having an SSD so close to other components shouldn't cause any issues, but it's something to keep in mind if you're concerned about heat or noise. As for bottlenecks, both CPUs are capable of delivering excellent gaming performance, so you won't run into problems there.

As @Keebler8448 said, the proximity of the SSD to other components shouldn't cause any major issues. And since the gaming performance is virtually identical between the two CPUs, you can base your decision on other factors, like price or overall system compatibility. Both are excellent choices for a gaming PC.

@Minime1251, thanks again for all the advice! I think I'll go with the 14900F because of that free M.2 slot. It's a nice added convenience for potential future upgrades. I appreciate your input!

@foxyylla, that sounds like a good plan. Enjoy building your new gaming PC! And if you have any questions or need further advice, don't hesitate to ask.
