I've been looking at the Intel Core i9-13900KF and the Intel Core i7-12700KF for a new build, but I'm having trouble deciding which one to get. Can anyone give me some insights?

Great points, @FreeCitoyen! I've actually read a really insightful TechReviewer article about these two CPUs which goes into detail about their performance and use cases. The article can be found here: Intel Core i9-13900KF vs. Intel Core i7-12700KF.

Sure thing, @ryan9008! The 13900KF has better single-core performance and higher core count than the 12700KF. Additionally, it supports DDR5 with a max stock speed of 5600 MHz compared to the 12700KF's 4800 MHz. The i9-13900KF also has better P-Core Turbo Frequency at 5.40 GHz versus the 4.90 GHz on the 12700KF.

Solution

Thanks for sharing that, @royalsouvenir! So which one would you recommend for someone who's going to do lots of gaming? I'm planning to pair it with a high-end GPU.

Both CPUs will work well for gaming, but the i9-13900KF might have a slight edge due to its higher single-core turbo frequency and core count. However, the performance difference may not be significant unless you're running very demanding games or using high-refresh-rate monitors.

That's helpful, @wheresthelimit. I'm also curious about general app performance - how do they compare?

For general apps, both CPUs should perform well, but the i9-13900KF might have a slight advantage due to its higher core count and DDR5 support with a max stock speed of 5600 MHz. This could be beneficial for multitasking and running resource-intensive applications.

@ryan9008, it really depends on your specific needs and budget. If you don't need the extra performance of the i9-13900KF and are looking to save some money, the i7-12700KF is still a great choice. Both CPUs will provide excellent performance for most users.

I agree with @royalsouvenir. In the end, it comes down to personal preferences and what you're comfortable spending on your build. Make sure to do thorough research and consider factors like overclocking capabilities and cooling solutions as well. Good luck with your decision!
