Intel Core i9-13900K vs. Core i7-12700K - Better for Gaming?

Started by redmondu on May 29, 2024

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and I'm torn between the Intel Core i9-13900K and the Core i7-12700K for gaming. Which one would be a better choice? Any advice from experienced gamers out there?

Thanks everyone for your input. I appreciate it. Based on what you've said, I think I might go with the i7-12700K since my desk space is limited. I'll check out the TechReviewer article Intel Core i9-13900K vs. Intel Core i7-12700K to get more insight into these CPUs. Hopefully, I won't regret my decision.

From what I've read, the 13900K has more cores (24) and a higher single-core max turbo frequency (5.80 GHz), which should make it great for gaming, especially in titles that can take advantage of multiple cores. Thanks @SouperFoe. I have a relatively small desk space, so the smaller size of the i7-12700K could be an issue if I decide to go with the 13900K. What about general app performance? How do both compare in that regard?

I've used both CPUs and found them to be excellent for gaming and general applications. However, the 13900K's higher core count and single-core frequency might give it a slight edge in some games, especially those with heavy multi-tasking requirements. But if you're tight on desk space and value that more than raw performance, the i7-12700K could be the better choice.

Another thing to consider is overclocking potential. Both CPUs support overclocking, but the 13900K has a higher base frequency which can lead to better performance when pushing it beyond its stock settings.

I recently purchased an i7-12700K and I'm quite happy with its performance in gaming and general apps. The color accuracy on this monitor is unbeatable if you're playing visually rich games, and the smaller size fits perfectly on my limited desk space. It's worth noting that the 13900K may perform better in some specific game scenarios, but for me, the i7-12700K has been a great choice.
