Started by salsita96 on July 11, 2024

I'm looking to buy a new CPU and have been trying to decide between the Intel Core i9-13900 and the i5-13400 for gaming purposes. Can anyone share their thoughts on which one would be better for me?

Thanks @jdthunderhawk. From what I read, it seems like the Core i9-13900 has better overall performance due to its 24-core count and higher turbo frequencies. But how does that translate into actual gaming performance? Does anyone have any experiences with these CPUs in games?

Yeah, I've been using a Core i9-13900 for a while now, and it's definitely great for gaming. The high core count really helps with multitasking and running resource-intensive games without any issues.

That's interesting @MesmerizingHS. I've been using an i5-13400 for my gaming rig, and it works fine for most of the games I play. For instance, I haven't encountered any bottlenecks while playing FPS or RPGs on medium settings. However, I did experience some stuttering in a few less graphically demanding titles when running too many background processes.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, guys. So it seems like the Core i9-13900 is better for heavy multitasking and high-end games, while the i5-13400 might be sufficient for more casual gaming. But what about overclocking capabilities? Are they present in either of these CPUs?

I'm not sure about the overclocking capabilities of the i9-13900 and i5-13400 specifically, but most Intel CPUs don't support overclocking out of the box. You might need to look into getting a Z-series motherboard for that option.

Good point @jdthunderhawk. I did some digging and found that both the Core i9-13900 and i5-13400 lack support for overclocking, so it looks like we're limited to their stock speeds. That's a bummer, but it doesn't seem like a deal-breaker for most users.

Thanks again, everyone. So, in summary, the Core i9-13900 seems like a better choice for high-end gaming and multitasking, while the i5-13400 is good enough for casual gaming. Both CPUs lack overclocking support, so it's really just about finding the right balance between performance and budget. Any last tips before I make my decision?

Just make sure to pick up a decent cooler if you're going with the Core i9-13900. It's gonna get pretty hot under load! Other than that, happy gaming!

And don't forget to consider your budget and what games you'll be playing most often. If you're mostly playing less demanding titles, the i5-13400 might still be a great choice.

Right on, @MesmerizingHS and @jdthunderhawk. I appreciate all the advice! Let's see how things turn out when I finally make my purchase. Good luck with your gaming setups, everyone!
