Intel Core i9-12900K vs. i9-9900K for Video Editing

Started by ryan9008 on June 20, 2024

I'm looking to buy a new CPU for video editing and came across the Intel Core i9-12900K and i9-9900K. Can you guys give me some advice on which one would be better for my needs?

I've been using the i9-12900K for a few weeks now and it's been working great! The additional cores definitely make a difference in my video editing workflow. Also, the faster memory support is really helpful too. I can vouch for the Intel Core i9-12900K vs. Intel Core i9-9900K article as well - it was very informative when I was trying to decide between these two CPUs.

Hi @ryan9008, both CPUs are great for video editing, but the 12900K has more cores and a larger L3 cache, which should make it better at handling multitasking and heavy workloads. I found an article that compares them in detail Intel Core i9-12900K vs. Intel Core i9-9900K. Check it out!

That's really helpful, thanks @FreeCitoyen! The article you linked says the 12900K supports DDR5 with a max stock speed of 4800 MHz, while the 9900K only has DDR4 at 2666 MHz. I guess that means the 12900K can handle higher data transfer rates for my video editing projects?

Wow, that's interesting @royalsouvenir. So you're saying that having more cores and faster memory makes a significant difference in video editing performance? Does it also help with managing large video files or applying complex effects?

Absolutely @ryan9008, more cores mean you can process multiple streams of data at once, which is great for video editing. Faster memory helps to reduce bottlenecks in accessing system RAM, so you can work on larger files and apply complex effects without any issues.

I've also been using the i9-9900K for a while now, and it's served me well for video editing tasks. It's not as powerful as the 12900K, but it still gets the job done. For less demanding projects or smaller teams, the 9900K might be enough. Just make sure you have a good GPU to complement it.

Thanks everyone for your insights! I'm starting to lean towards the i9-12900K since it seems better suited for my needs. But I still have some budget constraints. Is there a significant price difference between these two CPUs?

The 12900K is usually more expensive than the 9900K, but prices can fluctuate depending on availability and current market trends. It's always worth checking multiple retailers to get the best deal.

Alright, thanks again @FreeCitoyen, @royalsouvenir, and @wheresthelimit. Your advice has been really helpful! I'll start saving up for the 12900K and keep an eye on the prices.

You're welcome @ryan9008! Good luck with your purchase, and let us know how it goes once you get it set up!

Agreed! Best of luck with your new CPU, @ryan9008. And if you have any more questions or concerns in the future, we'll be here to help.

Cheers, @ryan9008! Take care and happy editing!
