Any advice on which CPU is better for video editing between the Intel Core i7-9700K and the Core i5-9400F? I'm looking to get a new one for my setup.
Intel Core i7-9700K vs. Core i5-9400F for Video Editing?
Started by higgsbosan on June 07, 2024
The Core i7-9700K would be better for video editing, as it has more cores (8) and a higher turbo frequency (4.90 GHz). This allows for better multitasking and handling of resource-intensive tasks like rendering or exporting videos.
Agreed with @Minime1251, the Core i7-9700K is better suited for video editing due to its superior performance in handling multiple tasks simultaneously. It can also handle larger L3 cache (12 MB) which helps improve overall system performance.
I recently upgraded my computer and went with the Core i5-9400F, but I have no regrets. While it's not as powerful as the i7-9700K, it still handles video editing tasks fairly well for most users, especially if you're working with lighter programs.
If you're looking to invest in a CPU specifically for video editing, I'd recommend checking out TechReviewer's article Intel Core i7-9700K vs. Intel Core i5-9400F where they compare the Intel Core i7-9700K vs. Core i5-9400F. It provides an in-depth analysis of their performance in different use cases.
Thanks @Minime1251, @tokyobob, and @Laststraw2017 for your input! I'll look into the article from @MesmerizingHS. Also, does anyone have experience with any specific video editing software that is more optimized for one CPU over the other?
I've used both the i7-9700K and the i5-9400F, and I can say that in Adobe Premiere Pro, the i7-9700K performs significantly better. The additional cores make a huge difference when working with 4K video or rendering complex sequences.
That's interesting to know, @Danny0402. Do you think the Core i5-9400F would be limiting if I plan on doing more advanced video editing in the future?
I wouldn't say the Core i5-9400F is a complete no-go for advanced video editing. It might not handle some tasks as smoothly as the i7-9700K, but it's still quite capable for most users. Upgrading to a better CPU can always be an option in the future if you find that your current setup isn't meeting your needs.
Thanks for the advice, @tokyobob. I think I'll go with the i7-9700K then. Any tips on maintaining low temperatures while using it for video editing?
For keeping temperatures low during video editing, make sure you have a high-quality CPU cooler or even liquid cooling if possible. Additionally, ensure your system is well-ventilated and consider adjusting the power settings to optimize performance and reduce heat output.
Great suggestions, @Minime1251. I'll look into getting a good cooler for the i7-9700K and see how it goes!
I'm glad you found the advice helpful. Remember that maintaining a balance between performance and cooling is key when building or upgrading your system. Good luck with your new CPU!
