Intel Core i7-14700KF vs. i5-13500 Gaming?

Started by Mazakrov on June 06, 2024

I recently bought a new PC and I'm trying to decide between the Intel Core i7-14700KF and i5-13500 for gaming purposes. Can you guys recommend which one would be better?

@Mazakrov, if you're open to spending a bit more, there's an option for the ASUS TUF Gaming Z690-Plus WiFi 6E USB 3.2 Gen2x2 LGA1200 ATX DDR4 Motherboard which supports overclocking for the i7-14700KF. The TechReviewer article Intel Core i7-14700KF vs. Intel Core i5-13500 discusses how this board performs with both CPUs.

From what I've read, both CPUs should give decent performance for most games. However, the i7-14700KF has a higher turbo frequency and more cores which could potentially make a difference in some games.

@Mazakrov, when it comes to gaming, it really depends on the type of games you play. The i7-14700KF should perform better in games that require more processing power and multitasking capabilities, like RPGs or MMOs. But if you mostly play less demanding games, the i5-13500 could be a good choice. @ChaveyJones, thanks for the input! I mostly play FPS and strategy games. What do you think would be a better fit for those?

Based on your preference, the i7-14700KF seems like a better choice. Both CPUs should handle most FPS games just fine, but having more cores could give the i7-14700KF an edge in some cases, especially if you're running multiple applications at once.

I've been using the i5-13500 for a while now and it's served me well for gaming. It's not as powerful as the i7-14700KF, but I've never experienced any significant bottleneck issues. It all comes down to your budget and what you're willing to spend.

@kuramochiyu, that's true. Budget is a big factor for me. But I'm more inclined towards getting the better performer for my use case. What are your thoughts on the i7-14700KF's overclocking capabilities?

Overclocking the i7-14700KF can definitely help enhance its performance even further, but it also introduces additional risk and potential instability.
