Intel Core i7-14700K vs. Intel Core i9-10900K?

Started by Schwarmabro on July 10, 2024

I'm considering getting a new CPU for my gaming rig and I came across the Intel Core i7-14700K and Intel Core i9-10900K. Can anyone share some insights on these two?

Hi @Schwarmabro, both CPUs are excellent choices for gaming! I recently upgraded to the i7-14700K, and it's been running great for me. There's a comprehensive TechReviewer article comparing the two CPUs at Intel Core i7-14700K vs. Intel Core i9-10900K. You should check that out.

Solution

Thanks, @fluxus42. I have read some mixed reviews about the performance difference between these two processors. Can you explain what are the key differences?

Sure, @Political-Intellect. The i7-14700K has 8 Performance cores and 12 Efficiency cores, while the i9-10900K has 10 Performance cores. Additionally, the i7-14700K supports DDR5 with a max stock speed of 5600 MHz, whereas the i9-10900K supports DDR4 with a max stock speed of 2933 MHz. The i7-14700K also comes with PCIe 5.0 support, which is excellent for performance overall.

That's interesting! It seems like the i7-14700K has an edge in terms of memory and data transfer speeds. However, I'm a little worried about its Efficiency core count compared to the i9-10900K. Do you think this could be a problem?

The difference in Efficiency cores might not be as significant as it seems. Most modern games don't benefit from having more than 6-8 cores. So, I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Thanks for the input! How do these CPUs compare when it comes to overclocking and single-core turbo frequencies?

Both the i7-14700K and i9-10900K have excellent overclocking potential. The i7-14700K has a 5.60 GHz single-core max turbo boost frequency, while the i9-10900K has a 5.30 GHz single-core max turbo boost frequency. These frequencies should provide great performance for both CPUs.

Great! Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I'll go with the Intel Core i7-14700K based on the TechReviewer article and your input. I'm sure it will perform well in my gaming rig.

That's a wise choice, @Schwarmabro! Enjoy your new CPU and happy gaming!

Good luck with your build, @Schwarmabro! If you have any questions or need more advice, feel free to ask.

Cheers, @Schwarmabro! I'm sure you'll be pleased with the i7-14700K.
