Intel Core i7-14700F vs i9-9900K for Video Editing

Started by kantando on July 11, 2024

I'm looking to get a new CPU for video editing purposes. Has anyone here tried the Intel Core i7-14700F or the i9-9900K? I've heard some great things about both of them.

Hi @kantando, I have used the i9-9900K for video editing and it worked well for me. However, I'm not sure how it compares to the 14700F as I haven't tried that one. There's a good TechReviewer article comparing these two CPUs at Intel Core i7-14700F vs. Intel Core i9-9900K.

Solution

I've been using the i7-14700F for a few months now and it has been amazing for video editing! The larger cache capacity definitely helps with handling parallel processing tasks.

Hmm, interesting. So what about overclocking? Does either one of these support that?

That's a great question, @Klonebros. The i9-9900K does have support for overclocking, which can be beneficial for performance in video editing. On the other hand, the i7-14700F doesn't support overclocking.

Thanks for the input everyone! So it seems like the 14700F is better suited for my needs due to its larger cache capacity and core count. I think that will help me handle the heavy lifting of video editing tasks. What about DDR support? Any thoughts?

Sure, the i7-14700F supports DDR5 with a max stock speed of 5600 MHz, while the i9-9900K supports DDR4 with a max stock speed of 2666 MHz. So if you're looking for higher memory speeds, the 14700F would be a better choice.

That makes sense! Thanks @feeseize and everyone else for your input. I'll probably go with the i7-14700F then. By the way, did anyone experience any issues with overheating while using these CPUs?

I didn't have any issues with overheating when using the i7-14700F, but you might want to invest in a good cooler just to be safe.

Thanks for the advice @rhapsowacho. Yeah, overheating is something I'm definitely concerned about. Any idea how the PCIe versions are on these CPUs?

Good question, @Klonebros. The i7-14700F supports PCIe 5.0, while the i9-9900K only has PCIe 3.0. So if you plan to use the latest SSDs and graphics cards, the 14700F would be a better choice in terms of PCIe support.

Wow, this is really helpful! I didn't realize there were such significant differences between these two CPUs. Thanks for all your insights everyone. I think I'll go with the i7-14700F based on its larger cache capacity, higher core count, and better DDR & PCIe support. But I'll definitely keep an eye out for any deals!

Good choice! And don't forget to pick up a good cooler if you decide to get it. Happy video editing!
