Intel Core i7-14700F vs i7-13700 for Video Editing

Started by Crushingguy on July 10, 2024

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU for video editing. Can someone advise me on whether the Intel Core i7-14700F is better than the Core i7-13700?

For what it's worth, I've been reading up on this topic and found a great article comparing these two CPUs at Intel Core i7-14700F vs. Intel Core i7-13700. It really breaks down the differences in terms of core types, core counts, frequencies, and cache capacities. The author also discusses their real-world experiences with both processors.

Hi, I've been using the i7-13700 and it works fine for basic video editing tasks. But if you're planning to work with larger files or multiple applications simultaneously, the i7-14700F might be a better choice due to its higher core count, larger L3 cache, and support for DDR5 with a max stock speed of 5600 MHz.

I've also been using an i7-13700 for a while now. The only issue I faced was when working on 4K video projects, which seemed to be quite demanding for my CPU. In that case, the extra cores and cache in the i7-14700F might be helpful.

Solution

Thanks for sharing your experiences and the link to the article, @Zeberlicious. I'll definitely check that out. Based on what you've said, it seems like the i7-14700F might be worth considering for my needs. However, I'm still a bit confused about the DDR support aspect.

The DDR support on both CPUs is essentially the same as they both support DDR5 with a max stock speed of 5600 MHz. So, in terms of memory bandwidth, there shouldn't be much difference between the two.

I've been using an i7-14700F for about a month now, and I must say it's a significant upgrade from my previous i7-13700. The extra cores have made a noticeable difference when working with large video files and multiple applications at once.

That's good to hear, @OrangeCatHatPat. It seems like the i7-14700F is definitely worth the investment for someone in my shoes. Thanks everyone for your input!

No problem, @Crushingguy. I'm glad you found the information helpful. Good luck with your new CPU!
