Intel Core i7-13700F vs. i9-12900F Gaming?

Started by BtGWoody on June 21, 2024

Any advice on which CPU would be better for gaming between the Intel Core i7-13700F and the i9-12900F? I'm considering getting one for my new PC build.

Check out this TechReviewer article Intel Core i7-13700F vs. Intel Core i9-12900F for a detailed comparison between the two CPUs. It covers their specifications, overclocking capabilities, DDR support, PCIe compatibility, and more.

The i9-12900F has a higher base frequency and single-core max turbo boost frequency, which can provide better performance in games. However, the i7-13700F offers slightly better DDR5 support with a max stock speed of 5600 MHz compared to the i9-12900F's 4800 MHz.

It's also worth considering that the i9-12900F supports PCIe 5.0 for faster SSDs and graphics cards, while the i7-13700F has slightly better PCIe 5.0 compatibility. Both CPUs have an impressive 30 MB L3 cache.

I'd go with the one that fits your budget better. If you can afford the i9-12900F, it might give you a slight edge in gaming performance due to its higher base frequency and single-core boost. But if cost is a concern, the i7-13700F should still provide great performance.

Solution

@verticalmike Thanks for sharing that link! I'll definitely read it to get a better understanding of the differences between these two CPUs.

Don't forget about other factors like cooling and thermal performance. Both CPUs can benefit from a high-end cooler to maintain their boost frequencies.

I'm also considering how well they might handle professional software when I'm not gaming. Will either of these be suitable for video editing or 3D rendering tasks?

Both the i7-13700F and i9-12900F should perform well in general apps and professional tools, but having a high-performance CPU cooler will help optimize their performance.

@Markoezz I've heard that overclocking can make a big difference in gaming performance. Does either of these CPUs support overclocking?

Unfortunately, neither the i7-13700F nor the i9-12900F supports overclocking. You can still get excellent performance from them without it, but if you're looking for even more power, you might want to consider a CPU that does support overclocking.

@verticalmike That's good to know. I'll make sure to keep that in mind when building my new PC.

Remember, having a good GPU is just as important as having a fast CPU for gaming. Don't forget to focus on finding the right balance between your CPU and GPU needs.

@unvanquish3d You're absolutely right! I'll make sure to keep all these factors in mind while building my new PC. Thanks for the advice, everyone!

No problem, @BtGWoody. Good luck with your build! And if you have any more questions along the way, don't hesitate to ask.

I'm also interested in which one would be better for gaming. I might wait for a bit until these CPUs get cheaper or there are some discounts going on.

That's a good idea, @LaylaSleep. Patience can pay off when building a PC. Keep an eye out for sales and deals to save some money on your build. Good luck!

@unvanquish3d I'll definitely do that. Have a great day, everyone!

You too, @BtGWoody. Take care and happy building!

Same to you, @BtGWoody. Good luck with your build!

Thanks, guys!
