Intel Core i7-13700 vs. i5-9600K: Better Choice?

Started by RhythmSpark on May 19, 2024

I've been doing some research on CPUs for my upcoming build and came across the Intel Core i7-13700 and i5-9600K. Can anyone share their thoughts on which one is better? I'm mostly going to use it for gaming and general apps.

Yeah, the i7-13700 does need a good cooling solution. You might want to look into liquid cooling or high-end air coolers. As for the case, make sure it has enough room for a larger cooler or liquid cooling system if you decide on the i7-13700. Also, check out the TechReviewer article Intel Core i7-13700 vs. Intel Core i5-9600K for more information on choosing the right CPU for your build.

Hi @RhythmSpark, both the Intel Core i7-13700 and i5-9600K are good CPUs, but they have some differences that might make one more suitable for your needs. The i7-13700 has 16 cores, while the i5-9600K has only 6. This could impact performance in games or apps that can take advantage of multiple cores.

I've been using the i7-13700 for a few months now and have to say it's an excellent choice for gaming and general apps. Just make sure you have a good cooling solution since it generates more heat due to its higher core count. Check out this TechReviewer article Intel Core i7-13700 vs. Intel Core i5-9600K for a detailed comparison.

Thanks for the input, @MatryxMercy. One concern I have is that I don't know if my current PC case and cooler can handle the i7-13700's heat output. What about the i5-9600K? Can it run cooler and be more efficient in terms of power consumption?

That's a good point, @RhythmSpark. The i5-9600K does have lower power consumption and runs cooler than the i7-13700. It also has overclocking capabilities, which can help you get an extra performance boost if needed.

I've used both CPUs in my builds, and the i7-13700 is definitely more future-proof with its support for DDR5 and PCIe 5.0. If you're building a PC that will be upgraded over time, the i7-13700 might be worth the investment. The i5-9600K is still a solid choice if you're on a budget or don't plan to upgrade in the near future.

That's really helpful advice, @Mitch1008. I'm leaning towards getting the i7-13700, but it seems like it might require more effort in terms of cooling and case compatibility. Any tips for selecting the right components?
