I'm planning to buy a new CPU for video editing purposes and I'm torn between the Intel Core i7-12700K and the Intel Core i9-14900K. Can anyone provide some insights on which one would be better suited for this task? I'm not sure if the extra cost of the i9 is worth it.

Both CPUs are from Intel's 13th Gen lineup, so they share many features like DDR5 support and PCIe 5.0. However, the Core i7-12700K has a lower TDP (65W vs. 125W for the i9), which means it consumes less power. This might not be an issue if you're using your PC in a well-ventilated area.
I'd recommend reading this TechReviewer article Intel Core i9-14900K vs. Intel Core i7-12700K to get a better understanding of these CPUs and their performance. Based on my own experience, I've found that the Core i9-14900K outperforms the i7-12700K in video editing tasks due to its higher core count (24 vs. 12), thread count (32 vs. 20), and cache capacity (36 MB L3 cache vs. 25 MB). The 14900K's 8 Performance cores, 16 Efficiency cores, and faster single-core max turbo boost frequency (6.00 GHz vs. 5.00 GHz) provide better overall performance.
That's helpful, but I'm still not sure if the extra cost of the i9 is worth it for my specific use case. Could anyone share their experiences with these CPUs in video editing tasks?
The decision really depends on your budget and how much you're willing to spend on a CPU. If money isn't an issue, then the Core i9-14900K would be a better choice due to its superior performance in video editing. But if you're on a tight budget, the i7-12700K is still a capable processor for video editing tasks.
I'd also consider future-proofing your system. If you think you'll be doing more demanding video editing projects down the line, investing in the Core i9-14900K might save you some headaches later on. However, if you're only doing basic video edits now and don't foresee needing a more powerful CPU anytime soon, the i7-12700K should suffice.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I'll read up more about these CPUs and their performance in video editing tasks. It's tough to decide without trying them out myself!
Good idea! And don't forget to check out that TechReviewer article Intel Core i9-14900K vs. Intel Core i7-12700K I mentioned earlier. It does a great job of comparing the two CPUs and might help you make an informed decision.
