Intel Core i7-12700K vs. i9-10900: Best for Gaming?

Started by Avialinde on June 13, 2024

I've been researching the best CPU for my next gaming PC build and I'm torn between the Intel Core i7-12700K and the i9-10900. Can anyone share their experience or recommendations on which one is better for gaming?

@Avialinde You should check out this TechReviewer article Intel Core i7-12700K vs. Intel Core i9-10900 that compares these two processors. It might help you make a decision.

I have a friend who has an i7-12700K, and he loves it! The higher single-core max turbo boost frequency really makes a difference in gaming performance.

That's true! I've used both the i7-12700K and the i9-10900, and while they're both great CPUs, I think the i7-12700K has an edge for gaming. The extra cores are definitely helpful.

@Jappleseed1985 I'll take a look at the article. Can anyone else share their thoughts or experiences with these CPUs in gaming?

I've never used either of them, but I've heard good things about both. The i7-12700K might have an edge due to its higher single-core max turbo boost frequency, but it's also more expensive.

@Avialinde Make sure you consider your budget when making the decision. If the price difference is too much for the slight performance increase, the i9-10900 might be a better choice.

@captainredbeard77 Good point, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks everyone for your input! I'm still leaning towards the i7-12700K though, based on the single-core max turbo boost frequency and overall performance discussed here.

That's a wise choice! The extra cores on the i7-12700K should help with gaming, especially in more demanding titles. Good luck with your build!

@DannehDub Thanks for the support! I'll definitely keep all these factors in mind as I finalize my decision.

Just remember that the TechReviewer article Intel Core i7-12700K vs. Intel Core i9-10900 covers a lot of ground on this topic, so it might be worth revisiting once you've considered everything else. It's always good to have a comprehensive comparison at hand.
