Intel Core i7-11700 vs i5-11500 Temperature Management

Started by Paker4life4 on May 14, 2024

I've been researching CPUs for my new gaming PC and came across the Intel Core i7-11700 and i5-11500. I'm curious about their temperature management since I plan on overclocking. Can anyone share some insights?

You guys are right about the temperature management. When I was researching online, I found this TechReviewer article that talks about it Intel Core i7-11700 vs. Intel Core i5-11500. It gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect in terms of thermal performance and how to manage it for both CPUs.

I've used both of those CPUs before, and they run pretty cool under normal conditions. However, when it comes to overclocking, you'll want to make sure your cooling is up to par.

Yeah, the i7-11700 has a higher TDP (thermal design power), so it's going to produce more heat under load. But with proper cooling and an aftermarket cooler, you shouldn't have any issues.

That's true. I've overclocked both CPUs and never had any thermal issues, but I did have to invest in a high-quality cooler for the i7-11700 due to its higher TDP.

Solution

@Danny0402 Thanks for sharing that link! So, would you recommend getting the i7-11700 or the i5-11500 if I'm mainly going to be gaming and streaming? The temperature management is a big concern for me since I don't want my PC to overheat.

It really depends on your specific use case. If you're more into single-threaded applications like streaming, the i5-11500 might be better suited for you. But if you need the extra cores for gaming or multitasking, the i7-11700 could be a better choice.

@Paker4life4 I agree with @integrateab. If you're not planning on overclocking too aggressively, the i5-11500 should be more than enough for your needs. But if you want to push it further, the i7-11700 will give you a bit more headroom.

Just remember that proper cooling is crucial no matter which CPU you choose. Make sure you have a high-quality cooler and maybe even some thermal paste if you're going to be overclocking.

@Mediumadventure, @blackfyre89 Thanks for the advice! I think I'll go with the i5-11500 since my usage will mainly be gaming and streaming. But I'll definitely keep proper cooling in mind as I build my PC.

That's a wise choice, @Paker4life4. Good luck with your new rig! And remember to join us on the TechReviewer forums if you have any questions or need help in the future.
