Intel Core i7-10700 vs. i5-9400F - Difference?

Started by gabrarlz on July 10, 2024

I've been researching these two CPUs for a while now and can't seem to decide which one is better for my build. Has anyone here used either of them or have any recommendations?

Yeah, I used the i7-10700 in my PC for a few months now and it's working great! The performance is really impressive. I read a detailed review on Intel Core i7-10700 vs. Intel Core i5-9400F that goes over its features.

Thanks for sharing, @suratmommy! I've been considering the i5-9400F for its lower price point but still want to know if there are any significant differences in terms of performance. Can anyone provide some insights?

I think both CPUs are good choices, but it really depends on your budget and what you plan to do with your PC. The i7-10700 has a higher base frequency and better DDR support, which can be beneficial for gaming and content creation.

Another thing to consider is the single-core turbo boost frequency. The i7-10700 goes up to 4.80 GHz while the i5-9400F only reaches 4.10 GHz. That extra power could make a difference in demanding applications or high-end gaming.

Thanks for your input, @cryptolaxy and @cherrypopover! I'm also curious about how these CPUs perform in general apps like web browsing and video editing. Any thoughts?

For general apps, both the i7-10700 and i5-9400F should be more than adequate. The single-core turbo boost frequency will definitely help with loading times and managing multiple browser tabs.

Yeah, I think I'm leaning towards the i7-10700 based on what you all have said. However, I'm still a bit unsure about the PCIe support on both CPUs. Anyone know if there's a significant difference in that area?

Both the i7-10700 and i5-9400F only support PCIe 3.0, so there isn't much of a difference in that regard.

That's good to know. Thanks again for your help! I think I'll go with the i7-10700 since it seems like a better fit for my needs and budget.

You're welcome, @gabrarlz! If you have any questions later on, feel free to ask us. Good luck with your build!
