Intel Core i5-9600K vs. AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT

Started by lenutanix on May 07, 2024

I recently decided to build a new PC and am trying to decide between the Intel Core i5-9600K and the AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT for my processor. I'm not sure which one would be better suited for gaming, general usage, and possibly some light video editing. Any recommendations?

I've been doing some research on these CPUs and came across this TechReviewer article AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT vs. Intel Core i5-9600K that compares them in detail. It might be helpful for you to check it out.

Hey @lenutanix, both CPUs are good choices, but it really depends on your budget and what you're going to use the computer for. For gaming, the Ryzen 5 3600XT has a higher single-core boost frequency which can be beneficial in some games. However, the Core i5-9600K also has a decent boost frequency and good multi-core performance.

I've been using the Intel Core i5-9600K for a while now, and it's served me well. It's great for gaming and general usage. The only downside is that it doesn't support PCIe 4.0 like the Ryzen 5 3600XT does, so if you plan on using high-end SSDs or GPUs in the future, that might be something to consider.

Thanks for the input, @IAmStardustOK. I didn't realize that the Ryzen 5 3600XT has PCIe 4.0 support. That could be a game-changer for me if I decide to upgrade my GPU or SSD in the future. Are there any other significant differences between these two CPUs?

Yeah, another important factor to consider is the L3 cache size. The Ryzen 5 3600XT has a larger L3 cache (32 MB) compared to the Core i5-9600K's 9 MB. This can make a difference in performance, especially for applications that require large amounts of data to be processed quickly.

Solution

Thanks @Liolaina, that's really helpful! After reading the article, I'm starting to lean towards the Ryzen 5 3600XT because of its better multi-core performance and PCIe 4.0 support. However, I'm still a bit concerned about the overclocking capabilities of each CPU.

To be honest, both CPUs have excellent overclocking potential. It really comes down to personal preference and what you feel more comfortable with. You can always do some research online or ask for advice from experienced builders in forums like this one.

@lenutanix, if you're looking for a CPU that's well-suited for gaming and general usage, the Core i5-9600K is still a great option. It has good single-core performance and is more affordable than the Ryzen 5 3600XT. Just keep in mind the PCIe 4.0 support issue if you plan on upgrading your GPU or SSD in the future.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! I'll definitely take everything into consideration before making my decision. I appreciate the insights from those who have experience with these CPUs.

No problem, @lenutanix. Good luck with your decision! Remember, it's important to choose a CPU that suits your specific needs and budget. Don't hesitate to ask more questions if you have any doubts or concerns.
