I've been thinking about getting a new CPU for video editing, and I'm trying to decide between the Intel Core i5-9400 and the i5-9400F. Has anyone had any experience with these?
Intel Core i5-9400 vs. i5-9400F for Video Editing?

Yeah, both are great choices! The main difference is that the i5-9400 supports overclocking while the i5-9400F doesn't. I found a TechReviewer article comparing the two CPUs Intel Core i5-9400 vs. Intel Core i5-9400F which might be helpful for you.
Thanks for sharing that link, @lunapopdrop! I checked it out and one thing that stood out to me was the difference in DDR4 support. The i5-9400 supports 2666 MHz while the i5-9400F only goes up to 2400 MHz. This could affect performance when working with large video files.
That's a good point, @datyoungmiller! What about gaming? I know someone who is interested in both video editing and gaming on their computer.
For gaming, the i5-9400 and i5-9400F should offer similar performance since they have the same base frequency and max turbo frequency. However, if you plan to overclock your CPU for gaming, the i5-9400 would be a better choice.
Thanks @AppleGranny! So it seems like the i5-9400 might be the better option overall for my needs. But what about the PCIe support? I've heard that can make a difference in performance as well.
You're right, @eliharada23. Both CPUs have PCIe 3.0 support, but if you plan to upgrade your graphics card or storage in the future, having more PCIe lanes could potentially improve performance. The i5-9400 has 16 PCIe lanes while the i5-9400F only has 8.
Interesting! I didn't realize that was a factor in CPU performance. So it seems like the i5-9400 might be better suited for my needs, especially since I'm also interested in gaming.
Yeah, from what I've read and heard from others, the i5-9400 does seem to have an edge in terms of overall performance. Just make sure you get a high-end cooler as well since it supports overclocking.
Thanks for all the help, everyone! Based on your feedback, I think I'll go with the Intel Core i5-9400.
