Intel Core i5-14600KF vs. Intel Core i9-13900 for Video Editing?

Started by JoeDongg on July 10, 2024

I've been considering upgrading my PC's CPU, and I'm wondering if the Intel Core i5-14600KF is a better choice than the Intel Core i9-13900 for video editing. What do you guys think?

To add to what @catmantown said, there's actually a TechReviewer article that goes into detail about the differences between these two CPUs. Check it out at Intel Core i5-14600KF vs. Intel Core i9-13900. It might be helpful for you!

That's a great question! I recently upgraded to an i9 and it has made a huge difference in my video editing workflow. The extra cores really help with multitasking and handling resource-intensive tasks.

Solution

Thanks, @Knowledge1337! I'm leaning towards the i9 after reading that article and hearing your experience, but I still have some questions about other factors like overclocking support and DDR5 speeds.

Sure thing! Both CPUs offer good overclocking support, with the i5-14600KF being more suitable for those who want to experiment with it. On the other hand, the i9-13900 doesn't support overclocking at all, which could be a downside if you're looking to push your CPU to its limits.

Yeah, I've been using an i5 for years and never had any issues with it. The one time I tried overclocking, I ended up frying my motherboard, so maybe the i9's lack of overclocking support is a good thing in my case!

That's funny! So @Akalegend, you're saying that the i5's ability to be overclocked could actually be a negative for you? Interesting.

Haha, yeah! I guess it just goes to show that not everyone needs or wants the ability to overclock their CPU. For me, the extra cores on the i9 make up for the lack of overclocking support.

It's also worth mentioning the DDR5 speeds and PCIe 5.0 support, which are both excellent on these CPUs. The i5-14600KF supports DDR5 with a max stock speed of 5600 MHz, while the i9-13900 is slightly behind at 4800 MHz. However, you can always upgrade to faster memory if needed.

Wow, I didn't realize there was such a difference in DDR5 speeds between these two CPUs! That's something I'll definitely need to consider. Thanks for the insights everyone!

No problem, @JoeDongg! I'm glad we could help you out. Just remember, it ultimately comes down to your specific needs and preferences. Good luck with your decision!
