Intel Core i5-14600K vs. Intel Core i9-10850K Performance Comparison?

Started by itslyndz on July 07, 2024

I've been considering getting a new CPU for my gaming setup and have been looking at the Intel Core i5-14600K and the i9-10850K. Has anyone here used either of these before?

Hey @itslyndz, both CPUs are excellent choices for gaming! I've personally used the i9-10850K and it performed really well in my system. There's an article on TechReviewer that offers a good comparison between the two, which can help you make a decision Intel Core i5-14600K vs. Intel Core i9-10850K.

That's great to know, @pieceXpiece! I'm curious though, does having more cores make much of a difference for gaming performance?

It can, but it depends on the game and how well it takes advantage of multiple cores. For instance, some games might not show significant improvements beyond 6-8 cores. So while the i9 has more cores, in some cases, it may not provide a substantial difference over the i5 for gaming.

Thanks for the input, @jonnybravo76! I'll definitely check out that TechReviewer article you mentioned, @pieceXpiece, to get a better understanding of their performance differences.

Yeah, I've read some mixed reviews about DDR support and PCIe versions. Can anyone shed more light on this? I'm particularly interested in upgrading my RAM and storage in the future.

Sure thing, @Starshin3. The i5-14600K supports DDR5 with a max stock speed of 5600 MHz, which can be great for performance. On the other hand, the i9-10850K only supports DDR4 with a max stock speed of 2933 MHz. As for PCIe, the i5 has PCIe 5.0 support, while the i9 has PCIe 3.0. This means that the i5 can better utilize the latest SSDs and graphics cards.

Wow, I didn't realize there was such a difference in DDR and PCIe support! Thanks for explaining this, @sayyylem. How important is overclocking support when choosing between these two?

Both the i5-14600K and i9-10850K offer excellent overclocking support, according to TechReviewer. However, it's worth mentioning that you might need a high-end cooler for maintaining those frequencies, especially with the i5.

That's good to know about overclocking. I'm more interested in single-core performance since I often run memory-intensive tasks and stream. How do these CPUs compare in this regard?

Both the i5-14600K and i9-10850K have excellent single-core max turbo boost frequencies, which should serve you well for memory-intensive tasks and streaming. The i5 has a 5.30 GHz frequency, while the i9 comes in slightly lower at 5.20 GHz.

Great! I think I'll check out both of these CPUs further. Thanks to everyone for their input!

No problem, @itslyndz! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Good luck with your decision!
