Intel Core i5-14600K vs. i7-12700KF for Video Editing

Started by jazzybamba on May 13, 2024

I'm looking to get a new CPU for video editing and I'm stuck between the Intel Core i5-14600K and the i7-12700KF. Can anyone help me decide which one would be better for my needs?

Intel Core i5-14600K vs. Intel Core i7-12700KF provides an excellent comparison of the Intel Core i5-14600K and i7-12700KF, including their core counts, frequencies, cache capacities, and more. It seems that the i7-12700KF has a higher core count and larger L3 cache, which should provide better performance overall for video editing tasks with a high-performance CPU cooler.

That's helpful! So it looks like the i7-12700KF would be the better choice for video editing. But what about in terms of overclocking support and DDR5 max stock speed? Are there any significant differences?

I've used both CPUs for video editing, and I can say that the i7-12700KF does offer better performance overall due to its higher core count and cache capacity. However, the difference in DDR5 max stock speed is not very significant, as both CPUs support DDR5 with a max stock speed of 4800 MHz.

@Icejumper4 Right, and when it comes to overclocking support, both the i5-14600K and i7-12700KF have excellent potential for performance improvement. So, while the i7-12700KF might be slightly better suited for video editing tasks, the differences are not as drastic as you might think.

Ok, that's good to know. I'll probably go with the i7-12700KF then, but I still have some concerns about cooling and power consumption. Any advice on that?

I've been using an i7-12700KF for a while now, and it does generate more heat than the i5-14600K due to its higher core count and clock speeds. You'll need a good quality high-performance CPU cooler to keep temperatures in check. As for power consumption, both CPUs are quite efficient, but you might see slightly higher power usage with the i7-12700KF.

Thanks @ignatiousp! I think I'm ready to pull the trigger on the i7-12700KF then. Appreciate all the advice and information!

@jazzybamba You're welcome! If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. Good luck with your new CPU!
