I'm looking at getting a new CPU and I was wondering if the Intel Core i5-14400F or the Core i9-12900 is better for gaming. Any advice would be appreciated!
Intel Core i5-14400F vs. Intel Core i9-12900 - Better for Gaming?

Hi @kainnationradio, both CPUs are excellent choices! For gaming, it really depends on your budget and needs. The Core i5-14400F has 6 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, while the Core i9-12900 has 8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores. In general, more cores can mean better multitasking and higher performance in some applications.
Hey @kainnationradio, I've been using a Core i5-14400F for a few months now, and I'm pretty happy with it! For gaming, it's definitely capable, but if you have the budget, the Core i9-12900 might offer slightly better performance due to its higher core count. Check out this TechReviewer article Intel Core i5-14400F vs. Intel Core i9-12900 for a more in-depth comparison.
Thanks for the input, guys! The article Intel Core i5-14400F vs. Intel Core i9-12900 you mentioned, @iosifache is really informative. It seems like the Core i9-12900 has an edge when it comes to multitasking and certain applications. But I'm curious, does having more cores really make a noticeable difference in most games?
Hey @kainnationradio, I've been using a Core i9-12900 for a few months now, and I can say that the extra cores have made a noticeable difference in some games, especially those with more complex physics or massive open-world environments. However, not all games benefit from having more cores, so it depends on your gaming preferences.
That's true, @Camick17. It also depends on your GPU performance. A faster CPU can help with game performance, but if your GPU is bottlenecked, you won't see much improvement from a higher-end CPU. In my experience, the Core i5-14400F works great for most games, and I haven't encountered any bottlenecks.
Thanks for all the advice, everyone! I think I'll do some more research and probably try to find a good deal on one of these CPUs. Appreciate your help!
