I'm looking for some advice on whether the Intel Core i5-14400F or the i9-13900F would be better for my new build. Can you give me some insight?

Yeah, @jonahcarlson is right. Also, there's an article on TechReviewer that goes into detail about the performance differences between these two CPUs. Check it out at Intel Core i5-14400F vs. Intel Core i9-13900F.

The i9-13900F has a higher core count and thread count, which should make it more suitable for tasks that require multiple cores or higher frequencies.

Solution

Thanks for the input, @jonahcarlson and @Patrick14. I'm more of a gamer, so would the i9-13900F provide better gaming performance?

The i9-13900F should provide better overall gaming performance due to its higher single-core max turbo boost frequency and increased L3 cache size.

That's good to know. What about for general apps like video editing or coding? Any differences there?

For general applications, the i9-13900F will also have an advantage because of its higher core count and thread count, which can improve performance in those types of tasks.

@ejacublake mentioned the L3 cache size earlier. How important is that for overall performance?

The L3 cache size is crucial as it helps with data retrieval speed, thus improving the CPU's overall performance. In this case, the i9-13900F has a larger L3 cache than the i5-14400F.

Makes sense. So, if I'm not mistaken, @jonahcarlson said the i9-13900F doesn't support overclocking, is that correct?

Correct, both CPUs do not support overclocking.

Alright then, any last words before I make my decision?

Ultimately, it depends on your budget and your specific needs. If you can afford the i9-13900F and its better specs align with your requirements, go for it. Otherwise, the i5-14400F is still a capable processor.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I think I'll go for the i9-13900F as it seems to have more potential for future upgrades.
