Intel Core i5-14400F vs. i9-10850K Multi-Tasking Differences?

Started by LehcarRepus on July 10, 2024

I'm thinking of getting a new CPU for my gaming PC and I was wondering if the Intel Core i5-14400F or the i9-10850K would be better. Has anyone had any experience with these?

Solution

Oh really? I'm more inclined towards the Core i9-10850K since it has a higher base frequency and supports overclocking. What do you think about its DDR support?

I've been using the i9-10850K for a while now, and I must say it's fantastic! The 5.20 GHz single-core max turbo boost frequency makes gaming extremely smooth. Regarding DDR support, yes, the i9-10850K does have DDR4 with a max stock speed of 2933 MHz, which is good but not as impressive as the i5-14400F's 4800 MHz DDR5.

That's helpful, @SnGSmama. So it seems like the i5-14400F has an edge in terms of DDR support. But I'm still a bit confused about PCIe support. The i9-10850K supports PCIe 3.0, while the i5-14400F supports PCIe 5.0. How significant is this difference?

@LehcarRepus, PCIe support can be crucial for certain tasks and when using the latest hardware. PCIe 5.0 offers twice the data bandwidth of PCIe 3.0, which means faster data transfers and improved performance when using high-end SSDs and GPUs.

Exactly what @DomanoSV said! The i5-14400F's support for PCIe 5.0 provides a significant advantage in speed and performance over the i9-10850K's PCIe 3.0. If you're planning to upgrade your GPU or SSD in the future, this could be an important factor to consider.

Interesting! So it sounds like the i5-14400F might be a better choice for me. But what about the cache size? Both have 20 MB of L3 cache, right?

Yes, you're correct @LehcarRepus. Both processors have 20 MB of L3 cache, which should provide good performance in general applications and games.

True! So it seems like the Intel Core i5-14400F has some advantages over the i9-10850K, particularly in terms of DDR support and PCIe support. However, I still think the i9-10850K's higher base frequency and single-core max turbo boost frequency are impressive features.

Thanks for all the input, everyone! Based on your experience and the TechReviewer article Intel Core i5-14400F vs. Intel Core i9-10850K, it seems like the Intel Core i5-14400F is a great choice for my gaming PC. I'll probably go with that one.
